Seamless Summer Option
The Seamless Summer Option (SSO) is available to school district sponsors only and combines aspects of the National School Lunch Program (NSLP), School Breakfast Program (SBP), and Summer Food Service Program (SFSP). School districts participating in the NSLP or SBP are eligible to apply for the SSO. The same NSLP and SBP rules apply for meal service. The cost of meals served is reimbursed at the NSLP and/or SBP free rates. Allowable meals may include breakfast, a.m. snack, lunch, p.m. snack, and supper. Up to two types of meals per day are allowable for reimbursement (three for migrant sites and camps). Once approved through the state agency, school districts serve meals free of charge to children 18 years and under from low-income areas.
Why should your district participate? The children of your community need the nutritious meals when school is out. The SSO requires less paperwork and monitoring and follows the same rules and claiming procedures as NSLP during the school year. Although the traditional SFSP is still available to schools, the SSO offers a streamlined approach to feeding hungry children in your community.
